Enterprise Resource Planning
Modern information systems combine models (in a model base) and data (in a database). These systems are based on an enterprise wide approach to business processes. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software systems provide comprehensive management of financial, manufacturing, sales, distribution and human resources across the enterprise. The ability of ERP systems to support data “drill down” and to eliminate the need to reconcile across functions is designed to enable organizations to compete on the performances of the entire supply chain. To utilize these capabilities managers have to learn how to manage processes using the model base and database of ERP systems.
Recognizing this need, some schools are considering the installation of a commercial ERP system and the training of students in using real systems. The amount of time required to learn all the screens and functions of a real ERP system is enormous as these systems are not designed as a teaching tool. Until now, there has not been an effective mechanism for teaching people to understand the dynamics of operation systems and to practice the usage of ERP systems. A course on planning and control systems would probably be the ideal place in business school settings. In an industrial engineering school, the book may give students their first, and perhaps only, introduction to business issues such as market demand and supplier relationships. Materi Referensi :
